Professional Towbar Fitting Service

Bestwick’s Derby, operate a Professional Towbar Fitting Service. You can be confident that your towbar will be fitted with care, by technicians that have had years of experience.

We fit quality brands such as TOW TRUST, WESTFALIA & BRINK.

We are very much aware that safety when towing is of paramount importance. To this end, when we fit a Tow Bar to a vehicle, all electrical connections are soldered (not “scotch locked” or crimped !) and all nuts & bolts are torqued to the correct values. Modern vehicles have CAN bus electrical systems and are computer controlled, so “Seven Way – Smart By Pass Relays” are used, where necessary, to ensure compatibility with modern vehicle electrics. Dedicated wiring kits are also included if necessary or if you prefer that option.

How much is it to have a Tow Bar fitted?

We believe our installation prices offer excellent value for the high standard of professional fitting that you will receive. Prices vary greatly depending on the vehicle. We do realise of course, that we won’t always be the cheapest quote. But – we have seen many examples of shoddy workmanship by unscrupulous fitters – that we have subsequently had to put right! So if you do use another firm, please ensure that the installation is of a good standard.

Which Tow Bar should I have fitted?

The choice is yours! A FixedSwan neck’ towbar will offer you a perfectly adequate towing solution. However, a detachable bar will maintain the vehicles appearance when you aren’t towing. The detachable tow ball is easily fitted and removed and as a general “rule of thumb”, usually works out at approximately £100 more than the fixed option. The choice of towball also depends on other factors, such as the need for commercial or Alko compatability.

Will a Tow Bar affect my parking sensors?

There can be interference issues with existing parking sensors, so please contact us if you need advice.

What type of Tow Bar Electrics do I need?

Many trailers, bike racks and lighting boards require Single, 7 pin Electrics to control the lighting functions. However it is worth checking your requirements, as modern units now need a 13 pin socket (with just the actual lighting connections that are ‘live’).

If you are towing a caravan it is well worth considering 13 Pin Electrics (Most caravans after 2008 use the 13 pin system) If the caravan is older than 2007, it will have Twin Electrics but we will still fit the better option of a 13pin socket. An adapter (we have them in stock), can easily be used. The 13 pin option will keep your caravan leisure battery charging and power the caravan fridge whilst you are towing. ( Sour milk isn’t very nice!) It will also illuminate your caravan reverse lights when reverse gear is selected.

We also offer Dedicated Wiring Kits, if that is your preferrence, or your vehicle electronics demand that option. If your caravan is equipped with the Al-KO Trailer Control (ATC) anti – snake system, you will also need the correct hook up electrics installed. Please choose the option most likely to suit your existing or future needs at the time of installation, as it can be expensive to change options, after fitting.

Our Towbars and all internal and external electrical work, including relays, are guaranteed for 12 months.

If you use Bestwicks for your tow bar installation, we also offer a FREE annual check service to make sure your tow bar electrics are in good working order year in, year out. Peace of mind is important – before you hook up to tow!

Please contact us if you would like us to quote for your vehicle.
